How Many Days Are Enough for the Andaman Islands?

Ferries and island hops eat time. This guide helps you decide how long to stay, and which islands to include, without turning a beach holiday into a logistics exercise.

Why the Andamans need more time than the map suggests

The islands look close together, but every move involves a transfer to a jetty, a boat or ferry crossing and a road transfer at the other end. A single island change can use half a day, and ferries depend on weather and schedules. Padding your plan is the most reliable way to enjoy it.

Four to five days: a compact first visit

Four nights is the practical minimum for a first trip. A typical shape is a night in Port Blair for the Cellular Jail and local sights, two nights on Havelock (Swaraj Dweep) for beaches and water activities, and a final night back in Port Blair to protect your flight. Our 4 Nights / 5 Days journey follows this pattern.

Five to six days: a more relaxed pace

Adding a night lets you spend longer on Havelock or include Neil Island (Shaheed Dweep) without rushing. This is a good choice for couples and families who prefer unhurried mornings. See the 5 Nights / 6 Days journey.

Six to seven days: islands without hurry

Six nights allows two island bases plus Port Blair, with a spare half-day for weather. It suits travellers who want quiet beach time, a little snorkelling and a slower rhythm. See the 6 Nights / 7 Days journey.

Beyond a week

Longer stays make sense for divers, photographers, or those adding more remote areas where permissions and transport are limited. Some areas of the archipelago are restricted or require permits, so we plan these individually rather than offering them as standard.

What affects the right number of days

  • Season: in the monsoon, add a buffer; see the best time to visit the Andamans.
  • Interests: snorkelling, diving or a Baratang day trip each add time.
  • Travelling with children or older relatives: fewer moves are better; see Andaman family holidays.
  • Flights: flights to and from Port Blair can be limited and may be rescheduled, so avoid tight onward connections.

A rule of thumb

Count your island bases, then allow roughly two nights per base and a night on either end in Port Blair. If that adds up to more days than you have, drop an island rather than rush all of them.
