Easy-paced holidays for all ages

Darjeeling Family Tour Packages

Our Darjeeling family tour packages are planned around children's ages, grandparents' comfort and shorter driving days, so everyone enjoys the hills.

A family holiday that keeps its pace

Darjeeling suits families who like a slower holiday. Distances are short, the air is cool and there is plenty to see without a long checklist. The main challenges are winding roads, steps and weather, so we plan around them.

Planning for children and older relatives

  • Shorter drives: we avoid very long transfer days and add rest stops.
  • Flexible mornings: the Tiger Hill sunrise is an early start. We make it optional for young children.
  • Family rooms and sharing: we confirm room arrangements and extra beds in the proposal.
  • Toy train: a ride on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, subject to operator schedules and availability, is a favourite with children.
  • Child-friendly stops: the Batasia Loop, the zoo and Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (subject to opening days), tea gardens and the Mall.
  • Food: we help with menus for fussy eaters and dietary needs.

Where families go next

Many families combine Darjeeling with Kalimpong for gardens and quiet walks, or with Gangtok in Sikkim for monasteries and lakes. Our family holiday guide and family holidays page have more ideas.

Health and safety

Darjeeling is about 2,000 m above sea level. Most families feel fine, but we suggest a gentle first day. Bring warm layers in all seasons, and carry basic medicines and any prescriptions.

A ride can be added, subject to operator schedules and availability. It is not always included.

How many days do families need?

Three or four nights is a comfortable first visit. Five nights allows slower days.
